Aberdeen City Composting

Community Composting is a community initiative that takes place in the locality where waste is produced and involves a group of people setting up a shared composting system to prevent waste going to landfill. The community provide the material for composting and benefit by having a way of disposing of their waste and access to free or low cost compost material for their gardens.

It is an activity that helps:
Reduce waste to landfill
Reuse a valuable commodity
Recycle nutrients back into the soil

Aberdeen Forward is leading the way in Community Composting within Aberdeen. Our award winning project in the City of Aberdeen is active on a network of 10 sites. These include: Garthdee & Slopefield Allotments, where on site large scale bays are utilised by Allotment holders to divert up to 150 tonnes of bio degradable green waste per year. Others include several residential composting projects.
