We are offering Free Taster Sessions in the city this Saturday on some of the workshops we runs to help people reduce waste by recyling old goods and making new ones from unwanted materials . Taster sessions will be run on many topics including Upholstery, Soft Furnishings, Rag Rugging and Knitting and everyone is welcome to come along and try. If taken up as hobbies, these skills will not only provide therapeutic respite, but will also help protect the environment at the same time.
The sessions will be run at our head office at 2 Poynernook Road, Aberdeen, from 10am to 1pm at its monthly Open Day. Over the last year, the charity has noticed a huge increase in demand for what were, until recently, seen as dying skills. Knitting classes have been particularly popular, as have the upholstery sessions. We see the environmental benefit of these in saving waste going to landfill and are keen to encourage people to get involved.
Lynn Smith, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Forward commented: “it’s been quite surprising to see the uptake in the workshops we are running over the past year. We run these workshops for 6 weeks at a time and much of the time they are fully booked. We are keen to encourage more people to get involved and in return hopefully they’ll be given a hobby for life, as well as the peace of mind they’ll get knowing they are doing their bit to help the environment. We are keen to put more workshops on, if the demand continues.”
