Aberdeen Forward Thanks Volunteers

Last Friday we held our annual Volunteers Day to thank our hard working volunteers for all of their hard work over the past year.  The evening was well attended with over 15 volunteers who enjoyed some mulled wine and mince pies.   Lynn Smith, Chief Executive, thanked all of her team and all of the volunteers for their support and hard work over the past year.  Special awards were given to Burhan Nassor for ‘furtherst travelled’, John Kay for ‘most reliable’, Jackie Robertson for ‘most hours worked’ and volunteers Sue MacGregor and George Blair picked up an award each for ‘coping with adverse conditions’.

We are hosting a volunteers day this Friday to recognise the good work of our volunteers and to thank them for the hard work that they have done throughout the year. Awards will be handed out to some of the volunteers for outstanding commitment and achievement. The event is being run at our  head office on Poynernook Road, Aberdeen and will start at 4pm. All of our volunteers of the charity are invited to come along.

Eco-friendly Workshops – The Perfect Christmas Gift

We are encouraging people this Christmas to think of alternative gifts this year to reduce waste and encourage recycling.  Alternative gifts, such as vouchers for eco-friendly workshops are ideal for people to learn new skills and at the same time help the environment by reducing waste.

Aberdeen Forward runs eco-friendly workshops in areas such as upholstery and sewing. Vouchers for a 6 week course are now available from as little as £60.

The sewing classes have been very popular since their launch in 2006. They offer individuals the opportunity to learn new sewing skills to repair damaged or soiled clothes/materials, saving, not only waste, but the expense of having to buy new.  Similarly, the upholstery classes teach new skills and encourage those attending to re-furbish old furniture and save suites and chairs being sent to landfill.

As well as running workshops, we sell second hand office furniture, plants, compost bins, art and craft materials, which could all make be used for a greener alternative gift this Christmas.

New upholstery and sewing classes will be starting in the January 2010.  For further information contact Aberdeen Forward on 01224 213 736 or visit  our workshop pages.
